Disruption notices
We try really hard to minimise the level of disruption that may occur when expanding and renewing our campus, but sometimes, for example, we have to close specific areas or divert footpaths to carry out necessary work safely, and as quickly as possible.
Keep up-to-date with current works so you can better plan your journey to, from and around campus.
Road repairs - Goodricke Lane - Friday 24 November
Repair work is planned for Goodricke Lane on Friday 24 November. The road will remain open but there will be a minor diversion in place.
Routine surveys of buildings - From 28 November 2023
From Tuesday 28 November there will be contractors on campus conducting routine surveys of some of our buildings. Initial surveys will be undertaken from the ground with binoculars and cameras. The buildings to be surveyed include:
Reduced parking spaces in Car Park 4.5 (A) - From 20 November 2023
Due to upcoming improvement works to the roof of the Wolfson Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratories, there will be a temporary reduction to parking spaces in Car Park 4.5 (A) permit only on Campus West. Unfortunately, all of the accessible car parking spaces in this car park will be unavailable for the duration of the works which will commence on Monday 20 November to Friday 22 December. The nearest alternative accessible bays can be found in Car Park 4.4 (Genesis). We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Closure of footpath near Vanbrugh College - From 13 November 2023
From Monday 13 November the footpath that runs from Harewood Way near Careers/Berrick Saul through to the covered walkway (between the construction site for the new student centre and Vanbrugh College) will be closed. This is due to the demolition of the former student admin block directly beside the footpath. We anticipate the path will be closed for around two weeks. Diversions signs will be in place.
Church Lane Building, development of engineering workshop - Late October 2023 - May 2024
Work on the annex at the Church Lane building to expand the workshop for the Engineering department will begin on Monday 23 October. The work is expected to last around six months. Most of the work is internal and we do not expect it to be particularly disruptive. However, as with all building work, there may be increased noise at times.
Refurbishment work, Ron Cooke Hub - October 2023 to late April 2024
Work to bring together some of the departments of the School of Arts and Creative Technologies (ACT) will start in the Ron Cooke Hub on Monday 23 October 2023. The refurbishment will take place inside the building only; impact on surrounding buildings and services should be minimal. The building (including the cafe and reception area) will, in general, be closed to staff and students. However, some areas will remain open including the Lakehouse, lecture theatre, study decks, toilets and prayer room.
Berrick Saul lift unavailable - November 2023 to February 2024
The lift in the Berrick Saul building will be unavailable for three months from Wednesday 29 November until Thursday 29 February 2024 to allow for essential work involving the full replacement of the lift. Please consider this reduced access when booking any meetings or events in this building.
Student Centre works - ongoing
- The work to prepare the ground for the new Student Centre is continuing with the strip out of the former Security Centre, IT and Student Admin buildings. The internal area of the Security Centre has already been demolished.
- The former IT services building (X block) will start to be demolished from 9 October 2023. The building will be taken down panel by panel to minimise noise and dust however please expect some disruption in the area including extra construction traffic on Harewood Way.
Student Centre car park closures - from 3 May 2023
Car park 2.4 (Campus Central) is now partially closed to allow safe demolitions to take place for the new Student Centre. The nearest alternative car parks are:
- Car park 3.1 (Campus North) located behind the library
- Church Lane car park which is within walking distance to many buildings on Campus West
The accessible bays near the former Security Centre are now blocked off but the accessible bays near the Spring Lane Building will be unaffected at this stage. Additional accessible bays have been provided alongside the hoarding. The route to the lift and library remains level and clear.
Campus East nursery works - November 2022 to December 2023
Since November 2022, the footpath adjacent to the new campus east nursery site has been closed and will remain closed until December 2023. An alternative route is available by following the path across the road to the Sports Village.
Derwent P-Block works - November 2022 to early 2024
P-Block in Derwent College will remain empty and inaccessible to students while accommodation improvements are taking place. The footpath that runs from University Road to the car park at the rear of Derwent College is closed to allow for access to the block. Pedestrians should use the main pavement next to University Road as an alternative.
