SEI is an international non-profit research and policy organisation that tackles environment and development challenges.
The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is an independent, international research institute, which has specialised in environment and development research for over thirty years.
The York centre sits within the Environment and Geography Department of the 四虎影院. Our research is geared towards translating scientific evidence into information upon which sound policy can be developed and through which behaviour can be changed.
SEI's overall mission is to connect science and decision-making to develop solutions for a sustainable future for all. It has a strong action-oriented research profile, interacting closely with decision makers in the different projects it undertakes.

Research areas
The SEI York research centre contains five core areas. Our researchers – including our cohort of PhD students - work at international, national and local scales, with a presence both within the local and regional community and around the 四虎影院, and in many high, middle and low-income countries.
Stockholm Environment Institute is named after the Stockholm Declaration on the Human Environment, adopted at the UN Conference on the Human Environment in 1972. Our mandate, vision, approach and values are derived from the principles outlined in this declaration.
Postgraduate study with SEI
Doing a PhD with SEI at our York office gives you the opportunity to study in a beautiful medieval city in northern England, surrounded by world-class researchers who are working on environment and development issues at a local, national, regional and global level.
Our staff and PhD students sit together in a large, bright office in a new building on the Heslington West campus at the 四虎影院. We are an international and diverse group of people, welcoming of everyone. We offer full and part-time options for study.
